What do we as a church believe?
Good question.
Well, if we just said “God”, that really wouldn’t cut it, would it? To put it as simply as possible:
We are sinful people, separated from a holy God; we need to be saved!
Jesus, the Son of God, came to this earth, lived a sinless life, died for us on the cross, and rose from the dead. Through this he saved us!
He paid the price so we don’t have to. This is a FREE gift, we can do nothing to earn it.
We must accept Jesus as our Savior and believe in him.
When we do that we receive forgiveness of sin.
We then study the Bible (God’s Word to us), worship together as believers in Jesus Christ, and share ourselves with God through prayer.
This is how God changes us.
The people of God, the church, are to be about God’s business here on earth. The Holy Spirit gives us the desire and ability to share our faith,
and to serve our neighbors, our friends, and our enemies.
In other words, we desire to be like Jesus.
Jesus will return to this earth someday to set all things right. Those who trust him as Savior will be welcomed into heaven, the place where God is. Those who have rejected him will be separated from him forever, in a place called hell, a place where God is not.
If you are not sure about your destiny when you die (and someday you will), please find someone who can help you become a follower of Jesus. Our pastor will help you do that, our elders will do that, so don’t delay.
Well, that’s a thumb nail sketch of what we believe. Now, allow us to share just a little history about where Silver Creek Community Church came from. This church began in 1894, and has been committed to this community ever since. We certainly have had our ups and downs; we’ve learned and grown through both.
Our church is part of something bigger – The Reformed Church in America, with over 1000 churches, and growing! The Reformed Church in America is the oldest denomination in America, with continuous work since 1628. You can find out more about the “RCA” as we call it, (and no, we are not part of the electronics company), at www.rca.org.
The mission statement of our church is: “Blessed by God to Serve Others.” That pretty much says it all. We do our best to serve in any way we can – a helping hand, a hot meal, an offer of prayer, a word of hope, a smile, a worthwhile worship experience – whatever folks need.
We hope this helps answer any questions you may have. If you have others, please don’t hesitate to call or email. Thanks for your interest. Our grandest hope is that you find Jesus, here, or somewhere else. May God bless you!
