Tim Overweg - Pastor
Pastor Tim grew up in Modesto, CA,
attended Northwestern College in St. Paul and received his Master of Divinity
degree from Bethel Seminary in 1989. He was ordained by the Reformed Church in
America. After pastoring churches in Eagan, MN, Santo Domingo, the Dominican
Republic, and Omaha, NE, he became Director of Youth Development at Urban
Ventures in south Minneapolis and has been there for the past ten
years.
Urban Ventures is a faith-based organization that opened its doors in 1993 to
"the least, the last and the lost of 'crack alley' in an area of south Minneapolis
overrun with drugs, violence and an active pornography industry." The mission of
Urban Ventures is to "build successful community in the city" through three strategies:
developing youth leadership, strengthening families and creating meaningful work
opportunities. Through educational programs, empowerment groups, mentoring and
other community partnerships, Pastor Tim has helped to "address the head, heart
and hurts of each individual" who enters the UV program.
Tim is married to Wendy and has two
sons, Johnathon, 22, and Peter, 19. His hobbies include 70's rock and roll
music and riding his motorcycle. Wendy grew up in southwest Minneapolis and has
a degree in psychology from Mankato State University. Her hobbies are listening
to rhythm and blues hip-hop music and Marcus, her six year old Rottweiller. She
is employed as the deli manager at the Buffalo Cub grocery store.
